Germany plans to exclude Huawei and ZTE from its 5G network

Germany says it wants to gradually phase out parts of 5G network equipment made by Chinese telecom giants Huawei and ZTE. The choice was made to protect national security and is part of a larger plan to make the economy less dependent on Beijing. The move is in line with what the EU said about the security risks posed by over-reliance on Chinese technology. German officials have called cyberattacks an existential threat and stressed how important it is to secure critical information networks.

Contract with operator

To make the transition, Germany has struck a deal with its 5G network provider that will replace Chinese parts with healthier parts.

Huawei and Beijing’s response

Huawei denied the claims, saying there was no concrete evidence that its technology posed a security risk. The Chinese Embassy in Berlin also said the move was wrong based on false allegations.

Apple’s EU deal

Another important development is that Apple has decided to let outsiders use the technology behind Apple Pay. The European Union launched an antitrust investigation in 2020 to see if Apple unfairly prevented competitors from entering the market for payment services. The decision ends that investigation. However, the deal does not cover the technologies present in the Apple Watch.

FTC action against NGL

On a separate note, the United States. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has cracked down on an anonymous messaging app called NGL. Teens were told the app was a safe place, but it was found to violate children’s privacy and consumer protection laws, so people under 18 are not allowed to use it. Also found were dishonest practices, such as sending fake texts to users to trick them into paying for something. A massive settlement with penalties has been reached to address these violations. In short, these events have brought about major changes in the world of technology, defense, and government. These changes have implications for business operations and policy making across borders.
