India to host Men’s Asia Cup Cricket

India is set to host the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup in the Twenty20 format.

Role of Asia Cup

The Asia Cup is an important tournament that helps teams prepare for the World Cup. Since the 2026 World Cup will be held in the Twenty20 format, the 2025 Asia Cup will also be held in the same format. Pakistan hosted the Asia Cup in 2023 but India did not go to Pakistan and used the hybrid model. As a result, India’s matches are played in Sri Lanka.

Future plans

The Asia Cup 2027 in Bangladesh will be played in the ODI format. It will be similar to the 50-over World Cup in South Africa. Both the 2025 and 2027 Asian Cups will have 13 matches each, fitting into the 26-game schedule for that period.

Participation details

The Men’s Asia Cup is attended by senior teams from selected member nations of the Asian Cricket Council. These include Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and an additional team that qualified through special events.

The tournament alternates between One Day International and Twenty20 formats. Notable players include Pakistan’s Wasim Akram, a leading wicket-taker, and Sri Lanka’s Arjuna Ranatunga, a renowned captain. The 2023 edition was unique for the hybrid model, with matches played in both Pakistan and Sri Lanka. In 2023, Nepal joined the tournament as a new participant.
