India to host Third Global South Summit 2024

India will host the third Voice of the Global South Summit on August 17, 2024. This virtual event will discuss important global issues such as conflicts, development challenges and climate change. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair this summit, which will see talks with representatives from various countries.

Purpose of the summit

The summit provides a platform for countries in the Global South (countries in Latin America, Africa and parts of Asia) to share their views, challenges and priorities. It aims to enhance communication and cooperation among developing countries. The first summit was to be held in January 2023 and the second in November 2023, right after the G20 summit. More than 120 countries participated in each event.

About the Global South Summit

The Global South Summit, which began in Havana, Cuba in 2004, seeks to increase cooperation among developing countries. It includes diverse cultures and economies and focuses on sustainable development, climate change and social equality. The outcomes of these summits can influence UN policies and enhance partnerships among member states, with rotating leadership to ensure inclusion.
