1. India deploys nuclear weapons operationally for the first time
India’s estimated nuclear inventory of 190 warheads includes 12 bombs deployed operationally for the first time. “This is a significant milestone in India’s strategic military capability and enhances its nuclear deterrence.” India has adopted the No First Use (NFU) policy and the Credible Minimum Deterrence principle to ensure national security through a defensive nuclear posture.
2. LMO Contactless Load Measuring System.
The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) has provided financial assistance to Puretronics India Pvt. Ltd. for commercialisation of the LMO Contactless Load Measurement System. This indigenous technology may be used for load assessment without any physical touch, hence improving industrial automation, safety, accuracy and efficiency in manufacturing and engineering sectors.
3. VB-GRAM replaces MGNREGA G Act
MGNREGA was replaced by the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 (VB-GRAM G Act) which took effect all over rural India on 1 July 2026. “The new law aims to generate more employment, enhance skills, strengthen rural livelihoods and infrastructure, while promoting sustainable rural development.
4. National Conference on e-Governance 2026 (29th)
29th National Conference on e-Governance (NCeG) 2026 will be organized on July 1-2, 2026 at Rajasthan International Centre, Jaipur. The conference will bring together policymakers, government officials and technology professionals to discuss digital governance, innovative public services, and best practices to strengthen citizen-centric governance across India.
5. FCRA 2.0 portal & e-OCI card launched
Union Home Minister Amit Shah launches FCRA 2.0 Portal and e-OCI Card project in New Delhi The upgraded site is for administering Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) services and the e-OCI Card will give a secure digital identity and faster access to government services for Overseas Citizens of India.
6. GCC Partnership with AIM-STPI in Innovation
NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) has joined with Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) to promote innovation through the GCC Conclave. The cooperation will help India’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) landscape by assisting startups, forming technology partnerships and providing new opportunities for innovation-led businesses.
7. National Rural Development Conference 2026
New Delhi, Jan 5 (PTI) The Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan (RGVS) 2026, a two-day national conference organized by the Ministry of Rural Development, ended here on Friday. The conference focused on rural jobs, digital governance, infrastructure development, women empowerment and sustainable livelihood prospects for accelerating rural transformation.
8. Re-appointment of CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal
Ravi Agrawal, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of 1988 batch, has been reappointed as the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). His reappointment would provide continuity in tax administration, policy implementation and attempts to promote transparency, compliance and digital transformation in the direct tax system of India.
9. Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) & APAAR
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has two big digital interventions in the form of Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) and APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry). ABC allows students to store and transfer their academic credentials digitally, while APAAR gives each student a unique lifelong academic identity, making education more accessible and flexible.
10. Water release from Himayatsagar Reservoir
Himayatsagar Reservoir is located in Telangana and is one of the twin reservoirs supplying drinking water to Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Authorities said heavy rain and rising water levels forced them to release water from the reservoir to maintain safe storage capacity, prevent flooding and assure a reliable water supply.
11. White-rumped Vulture Conservation Challenges
The White-rumped Vulture is on the IUCN Red List as Critically Endangered with a catastrophic population collapse. Major threats include poisoning by veterinary drugs (such as diclofenac), habitat damage and lack of food. Conservation : Protection of habitat and captive breeding and reducing harmful drug use.
12. Tiger Reintroduction Programme at Satkosia Tiger Reserve
The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has given an in-principle approval to commence the tiger reintroduction in the Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Odisha. The endeavor is aimed at rebuilding the tiger population, increasing biodiversity and improving animal safety after the reserve had been without a resident tiger for several years.
13. Defence Cooperation: K9 Vajra-T
India and South Korea have strengthened their defence ties through the K9 Vajra-T self-propelled howitzer programme. K9 Vajra-T is an Indian version of South Korea’s K9 Thunder. It will be made under the Make in India programme and will considerably enhance the long range artillery and combat capabilities of the Indian Army.
