World’s largest Ramayana Temple inaugurated in Bihar

The second phase of construction of Virat Ramayana temple has begun in East Champaran, Bihar. This is a big step towards building the world’s largest Ramayana temple. This phase began on July 9 and comes after the first phase, which was successfully completed in just 10 months.

Project description

The Virat Ramayan Temple project, scheduled to begin in June 2023, is expected to cost around Rs 500 crore. The temple will be three times bigger than the Ram temple in Ayodhya, which is a big difference. It will cover a vast area of 3.76 lakh square feet. Historical sites on which temple architecture is based include Angkor Wat in Cambodia and the famous Indian temples at Rameshwaram and Madurai.

Architectural features

One thing that will make the temple different is that its sanctum sanctorum will have the world’s largest Shivalinga, which measures 33 feet tall. The plan includes 22 shrines for different deities, which shows how religious the temple is in the broadest sense. The temple building will also have 22 smaller temples, each dedicated to a different important character from the Ramayana.

Construction Phase

The second part, which is still underway, involves raising the temple structure to the level of the pedestal, which is about 26 feet high. In this step, you will also have to perform the difficult task of fitting the huge Shivalinga. The shikharas, or temple towers, are being built in the final phase. The tallest central spire is expected to be 270 feet tall, higher than the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Completion and Meaning

The Virat Ramayana temple is a massive construction project expected to be completed in 2025. It is also a culturally important project that will help tell the spiritual story of the Ramayana. When built, it will be an important pilgrimage site representing the unity of faith and the beauty of architecture.
