Asia’s leading preclinical network facility inaugurated in Faridabad

Asia’s first pre-clinical facilities network for health studies was inaugurated by Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh in Faridabad, Haryana. The building is part of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and aims to improve learning in the event of a pandemic.

What is CEPI?

CEPI, or the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, is a global group that aims to accelerate the creation of infectious disease vaccines. By allowing people to work together on studies and funding, CEPI seeks to help people prepare for and respond to pandemics.

Role of BRIC-THSTI

Because it can handle biosafety level 3 (BSL3) pathogens, CEPI has named the BRIC Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) as the preclinical network laboratory. Through this high-tech laboratory, drugs and treatments can be tested and improved at a large scale.

Importance of setting up a preclinical network

This is the first building of its kind in Asia and the ninth in the world. Its establishment improves India’s pandemic planning capacity and makes it easier for global researchers to work together, helping to address urgent health threats more effectively.

Experimental Animal Facilities

This building is one of the largest small animal habitats in India. About 75,000 mice and other animals can live there. It is a vital resource for preclinical studies as it provides a controlled environment for drug and vaccine testing.

About the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI)

In 2017, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) was formed to accelerate the vaccine development process. Its main target is new infectious diseases that can spread rapidly, such as Ebola and Lassa fever. CEPI is a partnership between the government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the business sector. The goal is to ensure that everyone has equitable access to vaccines during an outbreak. CEPI has spent more than $1 billion on vaccine research and development. It works with the World Health Organization (WHO) and groups such as GAVI and the Global Fund for Tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria.
