Air India Introduces Newest A320 Neo Plane to Fleet

Air India, owned by the Tata Group, recently bought its first narrow-body aircraft, which has a new livery. The color code of this Airbus A320 Neo is VT-RTN and it arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport from Toulouse, France on July 7. This is an important step in Air India’s ongoing transformation process.

Increase in Air India fleet

The recently launched Airbus A320 Neo has three classes. The plan features 132 comfortable economy class seats, 24 premium economy seats with extra legroom, and luxury business class seats. This is the first time Air India is offering premium economy class on a narrow-body aircraft. The plan is for this aircraft to begin short-haul domestic flights in August 2024.

Current and future plans

Air India currently operates three A320 Neo aircraft in its internal network. These aircraft have the same three-class design, but with an older livery. Starting in 2019, the airline will launch new, improved and refurbished narrow- and wide-body aircraft to its fleet, to further enhance the customer experience.

Historical review of Air India

Air India was founded by J.R.D. Tata and its first flight took place on October 15, 1932. Since then, it has built a large flight network in India and other countries. The airline was owned by the government for 69 years before being bought back by Tata Group in January 2022.

Transformation Journey

Air India wants to become a world-class airline while maintaining its Indian roots through a project called Vihaan.AI. In the first phase, called the “Taxi” phase, basic changes were made, such as returning long-idle aircraft to service, adding more people, updating technology, and beginning to improve customer service.

Global Partnership

As a member of Star Alliance, Air India has access to a global network that makes it easy to reach key destinations around the world. This makes it easier for passengers to connect and travel. Tata’s strategic plans helped Air India add this aircraft to its fleet. This is a major step forward in the airline’s commitment to excellent service and operational excellence.
