Rajasthan will be the first state in India to have a ten-year action plan specifically designed to improve road safety. Aiming to reduce road accidents by 50% by 2030, the plan was endorsed by Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa in July 2023.
Outline of the Road Safety Action Plan
As part of the BJP government’s 100-day plan, the scheme is being implemented by the Road Safety Cell of the Transport Department. Detailed action plans and strong government policy will help make people more aware of road safety measures and change the way they act so they are better followed.
International cooperation and development planning
In collaboration with the World Bank, the Government of Rajasthan is improving and expanding the road safety system. Through this relationship, global best practices will be combined with local conditions to create policies and actions that are effective and culturally appropriate.
Phased implementation strategy
The implementation of road safety measures is organized into three key phases: 2025-2027: Focus on basic road safety issues, such as obeying speed limits and traffic signs. From 2027 to 2030, increased attention will be paid to safety behaviors such as the use of seat belts and helmets. 3. From 2030 to 2033, advanced mergers will focus on creating safe pedestrian zones and improving infrastructure.
Coordination of interested parties
To ensure that the action plan is implemented smoothly, an integrated approach involving multiple stakeholders is needed. In a strategic review meeting with Additional Commissioner (Transport) Nidhi Singh, it was said that the transport, public works, police, medical and health and forest departments are working better together. By using a variety of strategies, Rajasthan hopes to not only reduce the number of accidents but also set an example for other Indian states in terms of increased road safety.
