World’s most powerful passport 2024: India ranked 82nd

According to the Henley Passport Index, Singapore’s passport is once again the strongest in the world, with visa-free entry to an amazing 195 destinations. This location is a testament to Singapore’s strong diplomatic network and the ease of movement of its citizens around the world. India ranks 82nd with 58 countries granting visa-free entry.

Global Passport Ranking

  • 1st place: Singapore – 195 destinations
  • Joint second place: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain – 192 destinations
  • Joint third place: Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Korea, Sweden – 191 destinations
  • Fourth place: UK, Belgium, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland – 190 destinations

Significant ups and downs

  • UAE: Moved from 62nd to 9th, now reaching 185 destinations.
  • China: Moved from 83rd to 59th, gaining access to 85 destinations.
  • Ukraine: Moved from 53rd to 30th with 148 destinations.
  • Venezuela: Down from 25th to 42nd.
  • Other countries, such as Yemen, Nigeria and Syria, also saw declines.
  • Bangladesh dropped from 86th to 97th position.

Access Anomalies

Countries such as Nepal, Djibouti, Burundi, Sri Lanka and Somalia have seen large disparities in the strength and level of openness of passports. On the other hand, passport quality and access are significantly correlated in countries such as Barbados, Singapore, Malaysia and the Bahamas, with much smaller disparities.

About the Henley Passport Index

The Henley Passport Index rates passports according to the number of countries that do not already require a visa. It has been in operation since 2006 and its data comes from IATA. Japan and Singapore top the list with 193 countries having access. The index is updated quarterly. Afghans can travel to only 27 countries without a visa, which is far too few. Discussions between governments about global mobility and freedom of travel are influenced by this index. It also represents international agreements and diplomatic relations.
